Juan Oms, MD
Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Oms completed medical school at Autonomous University of Guadalajara (UAG) in Jalisco, Mexico. Dr. Oms completed residency training in Psychiatry in Miami, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in association with the University of Miami and the VA Medical Center. He is a Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry. Subsequently Dr. Oms completed a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry and developed a special interest in the field of Substance Disorders, he worked at The Watershed (a detox facility). Worked as staff psychiatrist at New Horizon Community Mental Health Center and was named Medical Director from 2009 to 2013; Dr. Oms also kept his interest in Substance disorders and pursued a concierge outpatient treatment where he led the partnership as Medical Director for Miami Outpatient Detox.
He has been actively involved in residency training and education as well while being the Chairman and Program Director of Psychiatry Residency Program at Larkin Community Hospital from 2013 to 2017. Dr. Oms is Assistant Clinical Professor at: FIU College of Medicine, Saint George University, Ross medical School and American University of the Antilles. Dr. Oms has also had the opportunity to serve the patient population in an FQHC at Citrus Health Network and was involved with the Navigate program and helped established the MAT/Substance Abuse program.
Dr. Oms since joining Jackson Behavioral Health as staff psychiatrist for the inpatient detox unit in 2020 helped developed a co-occurring substance use and mental health inpatient unit at Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital while streamlining the Tele-psychiatric consult service for the Jackson Memorial Hospital System, which involved Jackson North, Jackson South and Jackson West. Dr. Oms since 2019 has also served as the Director of Psychiatry for Ketamine Health Centers where he has spearheaded a treatment resistance depression center and has been involved in clinical research as principal investigator and sub principal investigator. He has served in the South Florida Psychiatric Society Executive Committee and the Florida Psychiatric Society Leadership Development and Nominating Committee. Dr. Oms continues to think of innovative ways to bring integrated mental health and substance services to our community.
